Elon Musk’s SpaceX voyage to the stars has just added its last two passengers.
According to WKBN 27, the two new passengers are community college educator Sian Proctor and former Air Force missileman Chris Sembroski. Proctor is from Tempe, Arizona, and Sembroski from Everett, Washington. They will also be accompanied by flight sponsor Jared Isaacman and a third passenger. They’re set to spend three days in orbit this fall.
The SpaceX Dragon capsule will launch sometime in September, and the last two spots were raffled off. 51-year-old Proctor nabbed the first one, telling the Associated Press, “It was like when Harry Potter found out he was a wizard, a little bit of shock and awe. It’s like, ‘I’m the winner?’”
As for 41-year-old Sembroski, he didn’t even win the raffle. His friend did, but when he passed on the opportunity to go into space for personal reasons, Sembroski filled his spot. “Just finding out that I’m going to space was an incredible, strange, surreal event,” he said.
Both new passengers also have some form of experience or appreciation for outer space. Proctor applied to NASA’s astronaut corps three times, and Sembroski worked as a Space Camp counselor in college and volunteered for space advocacy groups.
The two new passengers will be joining 29-year-old Hayley Arceneaux, who was selected for the exhibition last month. She is a St. Jude physician’s assistant who was treated there as a child for bone cancer.
