Five Fetuses Discovered in D.C. Home of Anti-Abortion Activist

Written by on March 31, 2022

Police have discovered five fetuses at the Washington D.C. home of an anti-abortion activist who was one of nine people indicted this week on federal charges for blocking access to a reproductive health center, CBS affiliate WUSA9 reports.

Police went to the home of Lauren Handy, 28, who the DOJ described as a “Catholic anarchist,” on a tip about potential bio-hazard materials in the house. D.C. Police homicide and forensic services detectives found five fetuses in the residence, which they confiscated before handing them over to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

No further information is available regarding the fetuses.

WUSA9 reporter Nathan Baca took to Twitter on Wednesday to post a picture of Handy outside her home during the raid. When asked what detectives had carried out of the home, Handy said that “people would freak out when they heard.”

The discovery arrives after Handy and eight others were charged on Wednesday with federal civil rights conspiracy and violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for their alleged involvement in blockading a D.C. reproductive health care clinic in October 2020. The defendants allegedly forced their way into the clinic, before using chains and rope to tie block individuals from accessing the establishment.

All defendants are facing up to 11 years in prison and a fine of up to $350,000
