Fivio Foreign and Kanye West now have a solid working relationship following Fivio’s appearance on ‘Ye’s Donda album cut “Off the Grid.”
The Brooklyn native spoke to Power 106 where he shared a story about a dinner he had with Yeezy, Lil Yachty, Pusha T, and others, where Fivio asked Kanye, “Who do I remind you of?”
“He like, ‘I don’t know. That’s a good question, right?’” Fivio said around the 24:10 minute mark. “So we start eating or whatever, boom, boom, he just said, ‘I don’t know.’ We ain’t worrying about it too much but then it’s like something hit him. He’s like, ‘Yo, I got it—[Jay-Z],’” Fivio said. “I’m like, ‘Hov?’ He’s like, ‘Hov!’”
“And then he started going crazy about it and started explaining it more, and start comparing shit. He’s like, ‘Yo, Hov was friends with the n***a with the deep voice and he died.’ So I’m like, ‘What you talking about?’ … So he like, ‘Biggie, Pop, Brooklyn.’”
Elsewhere, Fivio discussed the recording process for “Off the Grid” with Playboi Carti, and talked more in-depth about collaborating with ‘Ye, calling the moment “personal.” Around the 5:10 mark, Fivio explained why his verse on the Donda song is so long, saying that Kanye told him to continue recording after every eight bars.
Fivio also revealed that his forthcoming album The Bible is going to be executive produced by Kanye. He joked around the 10:20 mark, “Then I ain’t gonna have to do no more albums. I’m done.”
