Flavoured vape flavours may soon be a thing of the past in Quebec as the provincial government may ban them after it proposed new rules today.

According to the government journal, Gazette officielle du Québec, vaping itself will still be legal, but the government’s focus on restricting flavours aims to deter youth from doing it altogether.

Only vapes that taste like tobacco will remain available. As well the government will aim to cap the nicotine content at 20 milligrams per millilitre and refill containers to 30 mililitres.

“We’re not eliminating vaping, but we’re eliminating flavours,” Health Minister Christian Dubé said to Radio-Canada. “There will only be the taste of nicotine and all other flavours will be prohibited.”

Similar to how the government limited the marketing of cannabis-related items, vape products will not be able to resemble toys, food, or any other form that could entice minors into picking up vaping.

The Quebec government also said that the number of high school students who had vaped in the last 30 days skyrocketed from 4 percent in 2013 to 21 percent in 2019.

Within the next 45 days, Quebecers as well as concerned as relevant parties can voice their opinions before the ban takes effect.
