Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has died in a car crash in Alabama.
As NFL insider Ian Rapoport said on Twitter, Jackson’s passing was confirmed by his employer, Tennessee State, with whom he was a quarterback coach. He was 36.
TMZ reports that Jackson’s vehicle hit a tree and overturned around 9 p.m. on Sunday. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Before he joined the Seahawks in 2013, Jackson previously played for the team in 2011 only to join the Buffalo Bills for one season in 2012 in which he played no games. Jackson helped lead the Seahawks to win the Super Bowl in 2013, serving as a backup to Russell Wilson. He got his start in the NFL with five seasons at the Minnesota Vikings, but retired from the NFL in 2015.
When the news of his death broke, Wilson posted his condolences on Twitter. “TJack.. you will be missed,” he wrote. “Praying for your family… Love you man.”
RIP.
