Fashion’s biggest night is back.
The Met Gala returned after a hiatus last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally reserved for the first Monday in May, this year’s event is being held in September and features a theme of “American Independence,” which was inspired by the Costume Institute’s upcoming “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” exhibition.
As Nicki Minaj touched upon earlier tonight, everyone at this year’s Met Gala will need to be fully vaccinated. “Currently, all attendees at The Met Gala on September 13 must provide proof of full vaccination and will also be expected to wear masks indoors except when eating or drinking,” a spokesperson for The Met told People. “We will update these guidelines as needed.”
Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman are serving as co-chairs.
