Frank Ocean’s Coachella Set Delays Reportedly Due to Ankle Injury

Written by on April 18, 2023

Frank Ocean’s highly-anticipated headlining set at 2023 Coachella on Sunday didn’t exactly go off without a hitch, as the performance was delayed for nearly an hour while fans at home were disappointed to find out at the last minute that it wouldn’t be livestreamed.

Rolling Stone reports the dysfunction surrounding Frank’s performance can be chalked up to an ankle injury the artist suffered during rehearsals.

“Production on Ocean’s performance was adjusted at the last minute to account for an ankle injury the singer sustained during on-site rehearsals in the week leading up to the festival,” the magazine wrote.

Later in his set, Frank hinted at his long-awaited forthcoming album, which will mark his first full-length offering since 2016’s Blonde.

“It’s been so long,” he told the crowd. “Everybody talks about how long it’s been. It’s like, ‘It’s been so long, it’s been so long.’ But I have missed you. I wanna talk about why we’re here because it’s not because of a new album. … Not that there’s not a new album but there’s not right now. No, chill chill chill. It’s not right now.”

Despite the issues leading up to his performance, Frank made sure to level with his fans, as he told the audience: “I wanna talk about why we’re here because it’s not because of a new album. … Not that there’s not a new album but there’s not right now.”

Frank will return to the Coachella stage next weekend for the second weekend of the music festival.
