Freddie Gibbs has more music on deck.
The 40-year-old rapper confirmed the news in a recent interview with XXL magazine, saying he had not one, not two, not three, but four joint projects on the way. Gibbs didn’t share any details about the efforts—including when they might arrive—but reassured fans they won’t be disappointed.
“I’mma hit y’all with some shit that y’all thought y’all was ready for, but you really ain’t ready for,” he said. “Alchemist and Madlib ain’t goin’ nowhere, so keep that in mind. And me and Boi-1da in the studio now real, real, real heavy. I’m making the best music of my life, so it’s no reason to stop. And I’m the king of R&B, so I gotta do that album as well.”
He didn’t reveal the fourth collaborator’s identity; however, Gibbs told XXL he would like to work with hip-hop icons Jay-Z and Lil Wayne, as well as his “current favorites” Kodak Black and Future. Gibbs has also expressed interest in dropping a collaborative effort with Tyler, the Creator, but it’s unclear if the two have connected.
The interview come more than three months after Gibbs unleashed $oul $old $eparately, which was positioned to be his fifth and final album. Freddie spoke about the release during a conversation with Complex back in September, saying he already fully satisfied with his hip-hop achievements.
“I feel like everything that I really wanted to do with music, I’ve done it,” he said. “I think right now it’s just time to collect. It’s time to collect the accolades, the awards, the money and all of that. I feel like I put in a good amount of work, especially into this project. … It’s not a lot of guys from my generation in my age range that have been doing it as long as I have and as consistently as I have ever. I’m like LeBron right now.”
