Freddie Gibbs Is Down for a Tyler, the Creator Collab Project

Written by on November 3, 2022

Freddie Gibbs x Tyler, the Creator joint project could happen.

While speaking to RapCaviar this week, Freddie was asked if he could see himself reuniting with Tyler on a full-length record. The Gary, Indiana, rapper immediately said he was open to the idea, as he has nothing but live for the Odd Future founder.

“Cha-ching, gimme my money! We could do it, Tyler!” Gibbs said at the 58:35 mark above. “I’m gonna call his mama and make it happen. … I always loved Tyler, that’s like a little brother to me. … I love Tyler, man, he’s such a fucking weirdo. Like, how can you not love a guy like that?”

He continued, “Like I said, he’s somebody—he’s like a little brother to me, but I look up to him at the same time, too. I see the things that he does and I’m like, ‘What the fuck?’ It’s amazing. He has no fear at all, whatsoever.”

Gibbs and Tyler previously collaborated on “Something to Rap About,” a standout cut from Gibbs and The Alchemist’s 2020 project Alfredo

“I was in the studio with him and I was like, ‘Man, you know, I like how you be twisting that gay shit.’ He was like, ‘I’m not gay!’ And his girlfriend was like, ‘Yes you are!’” Gibbs said with a laugh. “I love Tyler, the Creator, man. I can’t say enough about him, man. You never know what you’re gonna get with that motherfucker. That’s why I love him.”

Gibbs has delivered a number of joint projects over the years, including the aforementioned Alfredo, 2014’s Piñata with Madlib, 2018’s Fetti with Currensy and The Alcehmist, and 2019’s Bandana with Madlib. Tyler, on the other hand, has yet to drop any joint projects since the Odd Future era.

The RapCaviar interview comes more than a month after Gibbs released his fifth studio album, $oul $old $eparately. The original version spanned 15 tracks, while the bonus edition had 20. Guest artists included Pusha-T, Anderson .Paak, Big Sean, Rick Ross, Offset, and Jadakiss.

You can check out Gibbs’ full RapCaviar interview below. He’s joined by his manager, Ben “Lambo” Lambert, and Norva Denton, the senior vice president of A&R at Warner Records.
