According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast of Friends is in talks to reunite for a 25th anniversary special on HBO Max. Sources tell the outlet all six original cast member—Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David Schwimmer (Ross)—would participate in the unscripted special, alongside series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman.

Insiders say the project is in early stages, and has not been locked down.

Earlier this year, it was announced Friends would leave Netflix in 2020, and stream exclusively on HBO Max.

Friends premiered Sept. 22, 1994 on NBC, and aired its final episode on May 6, 2004. The show, which followed a group of young people living in NYC, became one of the most-watched TV series of all time and earned a slew of awards, including Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe, SAGs, and People’s Choice Awards.

Since the finale, many fans have been crossing their fingers for a proper televised reunion. Aniston fueled audiences’ hopes last month when she posted an Instagram photo of her and her Friends co-stars.

Aniston addressed questions of a Friends reunion during a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“Anything is a possibility, Ellen,” Aniston said. “… Listen, I would do it! The girls would do it and the boys would do it, I’m sure. Anything can happen.”

She reiterated this later on in the episode, when she surprised guest Charlie Puth.

“We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is,” she said. “So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”
