‘Futurama’ Revived With 20 New Episodes Set to Arrive on Hulu

Written by on February 10, 2022

Futurama is coming back.

The popular animated science fiction show that was developed by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen has been given a 20 episode order by Hulu, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is set to begin production this month and is scheduled to drop on the streaming platform sometime in 2023. The voice actors from the show’s original run, such as Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Lauren Tom (Amy Wong), Phil LaMarr (Hermes Conrad), and more will return.

John DiMaggio, the actor who voiced Bender, has yet to come aboard for the revival and there’s reportedly been talks of recasting the role. DiMaggio took to Twitter to respond to all the news on Wednesday, writing, “Thanks for the concern and the props, everyone. I really appreciate it. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted, but until then… CHEESE IT!”

Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will also return. “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again,” Groening said, per THR.

Futurama, which takes place in the 31st century, premiered on Fox all the way back in 1999 and ran on the network until 2003. It then aired from 2008 to 2013 on Comedy Central. In total, the series ran for seven seasons and 140 episodes.

Stay tuned for more information on Futurama’s revival.
