‘Game of Thrones” ‘The Mountain’ Sets New Deadlift World Record.

Written by on May 2, 2020

Game of Thrones actor Hafthor Bjornsson broke a weightlifting record on Saturday, picking up 1,104.52 pounds, ESPN reports.

The 31-year-old Icelandic strongman broke his rival Eddie Hall’s record of 1,102.31 pounds, which he set at the 2016 World Deadlift Championships in England. While Hall held the weight for longer and dropped it out of exhaustion, Bjornsson didn’t even look tired after his lift.

“I believe today I could’ve done more, but what’s the point?” Bjornsson said afterward. “I’m happy with this. My family and friends, they were happy with this, and I’ve decided to call it.”

The 6-foot-9 and 425-pound Bjornsson played The Hound’s brother, “The Mountain”—or Gregor Clegane—in GoT, a fact that had many fans excited about his win.

Bjornsson also challenged Hall to a boxing match: “I just knocked out your record, and now I’m ready to knock you out in the ring,” Bjornsson said between gasps of air.

Hall has already responded, saying he will “1,000 percent sign those papers.” He also added that the match wouldn’t be for money or glory but to prove that he isn’t the cheater that Bjornsson has called him.

Bjornsson came in first at the 2018 World’s Strongest Man competition, and has placed third or better at the annual competition since 2012.
