‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Director Wants ‘Avengers’ Crossover Film

Written by on March 24, 2019

Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty believes the world would be a better place if there were a film in the future featuring one gigantic addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The image posted by Dougherty comes from Godzilla #23, which came out during a two-year run in the late 1970s when Marvel Comics owned the licensing rights to the monster. The issue pits Godzilla against the Fantastic Four and an Avengers team consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hank Pym, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, and Vision.

While it may seem that Disney owns everything, especially after the company finalized their acquisition of Fox earlier this week, Warner Bros. Pictures actually has control over the rights to Godzilla. Marvel Studios, however, didn’t let rights issues interfere with their goal of finalizing a deal with Sony Pictures which allowed for Spider-Man to join the MCU.

If Marvel Studios was able to figure out a workaround that could satisfy both parties once, it could happen again. The only issue is that Marvel Studios is juggling a lot of projects at the moment with plans to incorporate characters previously owned by Fox which aren’t expected to take effect until 2021.
