Gunna’s Beautiful ‘Drip or Drown II’ Cover Art Gets Memed

Written by on February 8, 2019

A new Gunna project of any kind is cause for celebration, so fans were hyped when the 2018 breakout announced the imminent release of his Drip or Drown sequel featuring some whimsically submerged cover art:

The project is due Feb. 22 and will soon be available early to fans via an undisclosed method. Young Thug stood as the lone feature on the 2017 original, which was followed by Drip Season 3 and the Lil Baby collab project Drip Harder—both of which arrived during Gunna’s undeniably stacked 2018.

“There was a lot of work that I did before I blew up this year,” Gunna recently told Complex when reflecting on the past year.

“I feel like [Drip Season 3] was just a real good body of music,” he said. “After all the work I had put in, I had gathered enough fans to where the impact of this new project was going to be bigger than my last project. So with that and the music being as good as it needed to be, that’s what got me to where I’m at.”

Ahead of the release of Drip or Drown II, the project’s cover art—which continues the water theme prominent among previous Gunna releases—has become a meme. Amid the discussion, some have noted possible design nods to both the Alkaholiks’ 1995 album Coast II Coast and Nirvana’s 1991 breakthrough Nevermind.

Thursday, Gunna pointed out that—memes aside—the Drip or Drown II art is not the result of Photoshop:

While we await the project’s release, check out the assortment of playful Drip or Drown II cover art commentary below.
