Harry Styles Shares Sophomore Album ‘Fine Line’

Written by on December 13, 2019

After revisiting his debut, self-titled solo album, Harry Styles concluded there were some areas where he held himself back. Which is why he decided to change his approach when it came to the much-anticipated follow-up Fine Line.

“When I listen to the first album now, I can hear all of the places where I feel like I was playing it safe, because I just didn’t want to get it wrong,” he told Zane Lowe last month. “… I kind of went into the second one feeling like I want to work out how to make all of this feel really fun.”

Early reviews indicate Styles achieved his goal. Though it incorporates elements from a wide range of genres—including funk, pop, and indie rock—Fine Lines remains pretty cohesive, offering a sound that is equal parts modern and vintage.

“Making this record felt like—I just felt… so much more joyous,” he said. “And I was with my friends and we were in Malibu … I felt so safe. It was like, ‘I want to take some mushrooms? I’m going to take some—like now is the time to have fun.”

Fine Line includes the previous released singles “Lights Up,” “Watermelon Sugar,” and “Adore You.” The project is available now on all major platforms.

Styles will kick off the North American leg of his Love on Tour with special guests Jenny Lewis and Koffee in 2020. The trek begins in June 26 in Philadelphia and will include stops in Toronto, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.
