HBO Releases First Look at Series Finale of ‘Game of Thrones’

If you didn’t watch episode 5 of Game of Thrones season 8, we suggest you stop reading right about now.
It’s officially time to say goodbye to Westeros. Or at least what’s left of it. Sunday’s penultimate episode of Game of Thrones saw Dany finally completed her long-expected heel-turn after she burned King’s Landing and what looked like most of its inhabitants to the ground, with the help of her trusty dragon.
After the gruesome episode aired, HBO released the trailer for the show’s series finale, which, if you think about it, is the final trailer for GoT, ever. As one might expect, the brief clip is very sparse on footage and includes no dialogue. But the final shot tells us all we need to know about where it’s headed. It’s an ominous shot from behind, showing Dany walking out into the city she just turned to ashes. Now, we’re no experts, but with Cersei gone, the ominous nature of the shot in question suggests that Dany is indeed the show’s ultimate Big Bad. You can watch the sneak peek above.
And if you’re still busy puzzling over why showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss chose to have Dany raze the very city she plans to rule, well, they do their best to explain it in the latest episode of “Inside the Episode.” Check that out below.
The series finale of Game of Thrones airs next Sunday on HBO.
