HBO Responds to Trump’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Meme

Donald Trump’s presidency reached a new level of weirdness on Friday as he tweeted out an image alluding to his plans to reinstate all U.S. sanctions on Iran that were removed under the 2015 nuclear deal. The weird part about it, however, is he did it with an image riffing on Game of Thrones.
Trump posted the image just moments after the White House announced the sanctions would be reimposed on Monday. However, HBO is clearly not happy to see the president use the show’s iconography, responding both seriously and jokingly. “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes,” said HBO as Deadline reports.
In response, HBO tweeted, “How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?”
Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner, on the other hand, responded to Trump’s tweet with an eloquent response.
Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams also chimed in with a simple response.
“President Donald J. Trump is reimposing the toughest sanctions ever on Iran, targeting many of the corrupt regime’s critical sectors,” said the White House of the sanctions. “On November 5, 2018, all United States sanctions that were lifted under the disastrous Iran nuclear deal will be fully reimposed.”
