Ariana Grande knows a lot about heartbreak—and sings about it incredibly well.
On Thursday night, the singer-songwriter released the highly anticipated “Imagine,” a promotional single for her fifth studio album. Grande announced the record earlier this week, and since shared a number of teasers online. She took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal “Imagine” would address failed relationships, much like her No. 1 single “Thank U, Next.”
“A lot of this album mourns failed yet important beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth / exploring new independence),” she wrote, “but for those of you asking about imagine: i would say if ‘thank u, next’ = acceptance… ‘imagine’ = denial. hope that makes sense. (sic).”
She expanded her description on Twitter, admitting that the song could have a different meanings for different listeners.
You can stream “Imagine” now on Apple Music, iTunes, and Spotify. The track will appear on Grande’s forthcoming album, which will also be titled Thank U, Next. Though we don’t know much about the project—such as its expected release date—Grande recently told fans that it would span 13 tracks.
Stay tuned as more details about Thank U, Next become available.
