Heat ‘Expected’ to Check in With Rockets for Possible Chris Paul Trade

Written by on June 9, 2019

Chris Paul might be taking his talents to South Beach. The Miami Herald reports that Paul and the Heat are talking about a deal that might move him away from the Houston Rockets.

Via that paper’s Barry Johnson:

“The Heat is expected to check in with Houston on available players (Chris Paul, P.J. Tucker, Eric Gordon) but not sure there’s an ideal match there. Memphis’ Mike Conley remains among several possibilities.”

Johnson also noted that Vince Carter is looking into playing one more season — at the age of 42 — if the Heat would be willing to give him a call.

The news that Paul might head to Miami comes after a report from ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski that all of the Rockets are being shopped around. While James Harden leaving is extremely unlikely, general manager Daryl Morey said that he would be willing to discuss trades for anyone up to Paul and Capela.

A possible Paul trade comes after news reports of tension between Paul and Harden. While it was reported that the two stars bickered following a loss in the playoffs, coach Mike D’Antoni said that the idea of bad blood was overblown.

“You know, we’ve always, we go back and forth about how to play the best that we can play,” he said. “I think for the most part—and anytime, sometimes it’s too much of this and too little of that, you know? So I think that’s normal. I think that’s just, that’s just you guys being a little bit too eager to print something that wasn’t a problem.”
