‘Heathers’ TV Series Once Again Sidelined Due to Mass Shooting

In another sign that this country we all just happened to be born into has a serious gun problem, the Paramount Network’s Heathers series has once again been sidelined by a mass shooting.
The most recent episodes, which were set to air Sunday as part of a week-long marathon, were pulled from the broadcast schedule due to the deadly terrorist attack at a Pittsburgh synagogue. Per a report from Deadline, the two pulled episodes featured a “storyline involving high school students undergoing active shooter training.” The finale aired Monday night as previously scheduled.
This marks the third time Paramount has sidelined the TV reboot of the classic 1988 film due to real world events. First, back in March, Paramount decided to push back the show’s premiere to July following the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Then, the network suggested it was going to shelve the show entirely.
“This is a high school show, we’re blowing up the school, there are guns in the school, it’s a satire and there are moments of teachers having guns,” Keith Cox, Paramount Network’s boss of development and production, told the Hollywood Reporter in July. “It’s hitting on so many hot topics. This company can’t be speaking out of both sides of its mouth, saying the youth movement is important for us and we’ve done all these wonderful things to support that and at the same time, we’re putting on a show that we’re not comfortable with.”
However, that move ended up being temporary. Instead of totally canning the series, Paramount decided to give it a marathon broadcast during the month of Halloween. The episodes were reportedly given additional edits. At the time of this writing, the Heathers series was available for on-demand viewing by way of the network’s app.
