Henry Cavill Reportedly in Talks Reprise Superman Role

Deadline reports Henry Cavill is in talks with Warner Bros. about reprising his role as Superman. It’s believed that his return will not include a new standalone film, but rather, an appearance as the Man of Steel in future projects.

It’s also unclear if Cavill could be involved in possible reshoots of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. He appeared on Zack Snyder’s Vero livestream rewatch of Man of Steel earlier this month when it was announced that the Snyder Cut was coming to HBO Max in 2021.

Cavill decided to part ways with Warner Bros. in 2018 after contract talks between both sides fell apart. Their inability to come to an agreement came in wake of a series of setbacks where he had to pass on a cameo in Shazam! due to a scheduling conflict, and the studio spent a reported $25 million on extensive reshoots for Justice League, which included CGI to remove the now infamous mustache Cavill grew out for Mission: Impossible — Fallout.

Despite his sudden departure, Cavill was adamant that he had more to offer to the role of Superman. “I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on,” Cavill said in a 2019 interview with Men’s Health. “I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
