Here Are 21 Savage and A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s First Week Sales [PRE-WRITE]

Written by on December 30, 2018

21 Savage and A Boogie wit da Hoodie both dropped two of hip-hop’s last major releases of the year last Friday. The first week numbers for both projects—21 Savage’s i am > i was and A Boogie’s Hoodie SZN—are in.

Billboard reports that 21 Savage scored his first No. 1 with his sophomore effort. The project, which includes Gunna, Lil Baby, Schoolboy Q, and Childish Gambino, pushed 131,000 equivalent album units, with 18,000 coming in traditional album sales. The total surpasses his 2017 debut Issa Album‘s 77,000 units.

The achievement ends a four-day stretch that found 21 Savage caught up in some beef involving Migos and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. 21 Savage called Layzie Bone’s diss, “Let Me Go Migo,” “wack as a motherfucker.” The tension quickly escalated to Bizzy Bone brandishing a shotgun on Instagram Live while making threats. Though the animosity hasn’t settled, 21 can at least say he ended 2018 as the Billboard 200’s last No. 1 album.

Hoodie SZN boasts features from Juice WRLD, Young Thug, and PnB Rock along with a second-place finish. A Boogie’s second LP moved 90,000 equivalent album units and 6,000 traditional sales. Like 21 Savage, this marks an improvement over his debut: 2017’s The Bigger Artist debuted with 60,000 equivalent units. A Boogie also released an EP—International Artist, which has him working with collaborators from all around the world—earlier this year, peaking at No. 57.
