Here Are Spotify’s Top Artists, Songs, and Albums of 2019 and the Decade
Written by SOURCE on December 3, 2019
As the usual end-of-year hoopla continues, fellow students of pop culture are dually met this time around with meditations on the closing out of a particularly stacked decade.
Adding to the conversation this week is the release of Spotify’s annual ranking of the year’s most-streamed artists, accompanied this go-around by similar stats for the decade.
Billie Eilish‘s Grammy-nominated WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? comes in as the most-streamed album of the year (globally) ahead of other massive releases from Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, and Shawn Mendes.
Eilish also comes in at No. 1 on the ranking of the most-streamed women with more than six billion streams for the year. Grande, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, and Halsey round out the top five.
Post Malone, meanwhile, is 2019’s most-streamed male artist, placing ahead of Ed Sheeran, Bad Bunny, Khalid, and J Balvin.
Over on the decade-centered rundowns, Drake and Ariana Grande take top honors, with Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” tallied up as the most-streamed song of the past ten years on Spotify. As the most-streamed artist of the decade in the general category, Drake amassed more than 28 billion streams.
