A Louisiana student-athlete made national headlines this month—not for his performance on the football field, but for his unique name: De’Coldest ToEvaDoIt Crawford.
It all started when the Green Oaks High School sophomore spoke to local media outlet KTLA about his prospects for the upcoming football season. Crawford spoke about the team’s additions and the challenges they’ll face as they try to secure a district championship.
“The first couple of games, they need experience,” the wide receiver said. “So the first couple of games we’ll just carry the load, and then the rest of the season they’ll get comfortable with playing, and we’ll do some big things.”
Shortly after the clip was posted, screenshots of Crawford’s name began circulating across social media.
There’s no doubt that having such a name comes with a lot of pressure, but the teen says it reflects his family’s confidence in his abilities.
“My mom came up with my name. She named me this because she knew I would be the best athlete out of everyone in the family,” Crawford told 247Sports, before addressing all the attention he’s been receiving. “I love the fame everyone’s giving me on social media…keep it going.”
