History-Making ‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Amy Schneider Robbed at Gunpoint

Written by on January 5, 2022

History-making Jeopardy! champion Amy Schneider was robbed at gunpoint over the weekend.

Per a report from the Associated Press, the armed robbery occurred on Sunday in Oakland, California. As of Wednesday, authorities had not announced any arrests in connection with the robbery.

In a pair of tweets addressing the incident, Schneider—who started her Jeopardy! run in November and had won 24 games as of Jan. 4—said that she was “fine” but noted that her credit cards, ID, and phone had been stolen.

“I then couldn’t really sleep last night, and have been dragging myself around all day trying to replace everything,” Schneider said. “So, I doubt I’ll even start writing tonight’s game thread today, and if I keep winning, it may take a bit for me to get caught up. Thanks for your patience!”

Complex has reached out to a rep for the Oakland Police Department for additional comment. In a statement to Good Morning America, a spokesperson for Jeopardy! confirmed they had reached out privately to Schneider “to offer our help in any capacity.”

Back in December, Schneider made history as the first transgender Jeopardy! contestant to compete in the show’s Tournament of Champions. More recently, she became the highest-earning woman in the show’s decades-long run.
