Ice Cube on How Dodgers Can Achieve Success: ‘They Need to Get Some Black Ballplayers’

Written by on October 15, 2019

The 2019 campaign has come and gone for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the team is once again left wondering how such a promising regular season could only lead to an incredibly disappointing playoff run.

After losing in back-to-back World Series appearances, the Dodgers finished this year with a franchise-record 106 wins, and appeared poised to right their wrongs from the previous two seasons with home-field advantage throughout the National League portion of the postseason.

Then, the Dodgers ran into Wild Card winners, the Washington Nationals, who eliminated L.A. in front of their Dodger faithful in a win-or-go-home Game 5 with a soul-crushing grand slam in the 10th inning off the bat of Howie Kendrick.

When asked by TMZ what the team needs to do to stop choking, Cube responded without hesitation, “They need to get some black ballplayers.”

Back in August, Cube gave a quick update on the new Friday movie. “Yep, still polishing it, getting it right,” he said in an interview with Complex. “Once we get it right, we get the green light. Then we can cast it.” Cube also responded to a question about if they were aiming to get the new film released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the first Friday film, which dropped in 1995. “It would be nice,” he said. “It’d be nice to hit that day, but I’m not going to pressure and pigeonhole myself, or put myself in a box to try to make a date. But we are going to try to put out in 2020.”
