Iggy Azalea says her long-delayed sophomore album is taking aim at her biggest critics, including herself.
After years of setbacks and growing anticipation, the Australian rapper finally has finally released In My Defense—the follow-up to her 2014 debut album The New Classic. Iggy revealed the project’s release date last month via social media, along with the bloody album art in which she is seen wounded next to a car. When questioned about the inspiration behind the cover, Iggy told fans it was message about women’s inability to defend themselves while living in the public eye.
“The reason for the title In My Defense kinda comes from the internet” Iggy said in an interview with Radio.com. “I think when you’re a person that’s a public figure, sort of your life becomes about defending yourself. So this is kind of saying my piece, but it’s not a serious record.”
The album features 12 tracks, including the promotional singles “Sally Walker,” “Started”, and “Fuck It Up” with Kash Doll. Lil Yachty, Juicy J, and Stini also make appearances.
In My Defense is available now on Apple Music and Spotify.
