ILoveMakonnen Says Drake Once Called Him an ‘Eric Benét-Ass Looking N***a’

ILoveMakonnen’s time at OVO was short lived. Not long after Drake hopped on the rising star’s 2014 hit single “Tuesday,” Makonnen and the Toronto rapper had a falling out, resulting in the former leaving the label less than two years after signing a record deal.
In a new interview with NPR Music (above), Makonnen recalled new details about falling out with Drake, revealing that their relationship took a turn at the 2015 Wireless Festival.
“That’s when I knew something was weird,” Makonnen shared. “Drake made a little joke that I [resembled] a ‘little Eric Benét-ass looking n***a.’ I just started to feel this vibe.”
According to Makonnen, Drake’s problem with him was not related to the former’s sexuality, which became public after he signed with OVO and was rumored to be an issue between the pair. The 34-year-old said past tweets dissing Drizzy were the problem.
“Y’all need to drop him because he said your song ‘Practice’ was lame back in 2011,” Makonnen recalled one hater saying on social media. He maintains that such comments were merely a way for him to throw good-natured shade at Drake. “[It’s] our little outlet. That’s our only way of attention,” Makonnen shared. “It ain’t nothing personal.”
Later in his discussion with NPR, Makonnen admitted that his relationship with the 6 God likely reached its breaking point after he referenced their rumored beef in a Tim Westwood freestyle that saw him deliver bars over Drake beats.
“Then everybody was saying, ‘You’re going after Drake.”
