J. Cole Goes Platinum With No Features—Again

Written by on December 21, 2018

J. Cole has done it again.

The Dreamville rapper’s KOD album officially sold more than 1 million units as of Dec. 5, marking his third full-length project to go platinum with no features. (We’re, of course, not counting the guest appearance by Cole’s alter-ego “Kill Edward,” who was credited on “The Cut Off” and “Friends.”)

Chart Data confirmed the accolade Thursday, exactly eight months after KOD was released, and about seven months after it was certified gold.

Cole’s KOD has garnered praise from both fans and critics alike. Addressing topics like love, money, and addiction, the 12-track album went on to break first-day streaming records on Apple Music and Spotify, and has also appeared on numerous year-end lists, including our own

But despite KOD‘s undeniable success, the project didn’t receive a single 2019 Grammy nomination. But why? Some suspect Cole simply chose not to submit the album, while others point to this year’s oversaturated market

Though KOD isn’t up for any Grammy awards, Cole still has a chance to win. The rapper has been nominated for “Come Through and Chill” with Miguel (Best R&B Song) and “Pretty Little Fears” with 6lack (Best Rap/Sung Performance.)
