Ja Rule Says He Doesn’t Condone Irv Gotti’s Comments on Ashanti

Written by on August 12, 2022

Ja Rule says he wants no part in the Irv Gotti drama.

The 46-year-old shared his thoughts on Thursday night, insisting he doesn’t condone Gotti’s recent antics on Drink Champs, where he shared intimate details about his alleged relationship with Ashanti from 20 years ago. At one point during the conversation, Irv claimed he came up with the singer’s 2002 hit “Happy” after they finished having sex. He also said he no longer misses the energy he had with Ashanti, suggesting she wasn’t anything special when compared to his other past flames.

Fat Joe not only criticized Gotti for the remarks, he also slammed Ja for failing to defend Ashanti during the episode.

Ja immediately pushed back on Joe’s criticism, claiming he stuck up for Ashanti—and all other women—during the Drink Champs interview. But for those who weren’t convinced, Ja took to Instagram to express his disagreement with Gotti’s behavior.

“Brotherly love … The last few days have been very turbulent for me but it’s time to land the plane…” Ja wrote. “I love my sis, I love my bro, but I DO NOT condone or agree with the behavior nor the way Gotti handled things on Drink Champs. I hope y’all understand how uncomfortable this is for me being in the middle of something I wish to not be… Going forward, all I ask is to be left out of this please and thank you!!! Sincerely Switzerland Bennett.”

A number of fans and fellow celebrities applauded Ja for statement.

“Glad you said this @jarule,” Claudia Jordan wrote in the comments section.

“Jah, YOU’RE THE GLUE TO IT ALL!!!…. 💯💯💯💯,” Vin Rock of Naughty by Nature responded.

Following Joe’s comments, Irv claimed he was no longer friends with the Terror Squad rapper, and suspected the criticism he faced was rooted in jealousy.

I” feel like [Fat Joe] fooled me. He’s not my friend. I was fooled, but in life you get fooled,” Irv told Houston’s 97.9 The Box. “Forget Joe ’cause they don’t want me to talk about Joe,. So I won’t talk about Joe, I’ll talk about life. And In life, everyone goes through friends. … People may be jealous of you, on the low. I just signed a deal for $300 million. I know certain people who are friends—so-called friends—they may be mad at that. … And that’s cool. We don’t need to be friends anymore.”
