JAY-Z has joined in on the end-of-year mania of rankings and lists and whatnot by sharing a TIDAL playlist of his favorite songs circa 2019.
Included in JAY’s annual rundown are tracks from DaBaby, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Drake, Rick Ross, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyler, the Creator, Russ, Solange, Young Thug, and more. Grab a listen of the full 40-track playlist above via TIDAL.
The final weeks of 2019 for JAY have been reliably stacked. Earlier this month, for example, JAY named Desiree Perez the new CEO of Roc Nation. Speaking about her longtime working relationship with JAY at the Billboard Women in Music event, Perez—who was honored at the ceremony as Executive of the Year—thanked him for a valuable lesson.
“You’ve taught me to trust myself to do what’s right and not whats easiest,” she said. “Thank you to our family. Rihanna, I’m forever grateful for you. Meek Mill, Uzi, Gotti, Joe, Khaled, Alicia, Kyrie; the list goes on and so much incredible talent that I get to work with everyday.”
And just this week, the classic JAY video for “Marcy Me” was revealed as being pivotal in Adam Sandler landing in the critically acclaimed Safdie production Uncut Gems. Speaking with Pitchfork, the Safdie brothers said they sent the video they directed for “Marcy Me” during their united effort to enlist Sandler for the film. According to Josh, Sandler “really emotionally responded” to the Darius Khondji-assisted clip. “It only helped in that courtship,” he added of the video, which can be revisited below.
