Jersey Shore Will Be Open for Memorial Day Weekend

With more and more states slowly planning to reopen public spaces closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been announced that beaches and lakes across Jersey Shore will open back up soon. The move was announced by New Jersey governor Phil Murphy, who said that the Jersey Shore will be reopened for Memorial Day weekend, citing the fact that “the shore is central to our Jersey identity.”
“The Jersey Shore will be open in time for Memorial Day Weekend, with social distancing guidelines in place,” wrote Murphy. “The shore is central to our Jersey identity and we want to ensure that families can safely enjoy it this summer.”
Capacity is expected to be limited, while social distancing will be observed with “no special events” and increased “sanitization requirements.” While the beaches will be open, “playgrounds, rides, arcades, games, water fountains, picnic areas, and water play equipment” will not be.
The new rules and opening of the previously closed areas goes into effect on May 22. “The Jersey Shore, after all, is where memories are made,” Murphy said during his daily COVID-19 briefing on Thursday. “The last thing any of us wanted was for a summetime down the shore to be a memory.”
Understandably, a lot of people on Twitter are skeptical about the decision, with many questioning how capacity will be limited on the beaches.
