Two years after dropping her debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us, Toronto artist Jessie Reyez is back with sophomore release Yessie and a Vevo Sessions live performance of her song “Only One.”
The 11-track release includes only one feature: “Forever” with 6lack. The Atlanta R&B singer previously appeared on “Imported” with Reyez.
Tim Suby produced or co-produced 5 songs on the album, while Calvin Harris produced “Titos.” The album ends with a bilingual, English-Spanish track “Adiós Amor.”
“The day is finally here,” Reyez said on Instagram. “I feel like I’ve had to take a shit for fucking months and I finally found relief. Yessie. Out Now.”
The Colombian-Canadian artist burst onto the scene in 2017 with her EP Kiddo, which garnered four 2018 Juno nominations, including a win for Breakthrough Artist. A year later, Reyez followed it up with another EP, Being Human in Public, which started a run of two consecutive R&B/Soul Recording of the Year Juno wins. She also has Juno wins in the Video of the Year and Breakthrough Artist categories.
She first announced Yessie, her nickname among family members, back in August with the release of single “Mutual Friend,” which she debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Reyez’s 2022 world tour starts Oct. 13, with her first Canadian stop in Vancouver at The Orpheum on Halloween. She’ll be in Montreal at MTelus on Nov. 26, followed by two hometown shows in Toronto at History on Nov. 28 and Nov. 30.
