Jessie Reyez has shared another taste of her long-awaited debut album.
Fresh off the release of her “No Sweat” record, the 28-year-old artist has gifted fans with the emotional single “Love in the Dark.”
“I wrote this during a really sad time in my life, I remember crying,” Reyez said in a statement. “I hope people understand how vulnerable it is.”
“Love in the Dark” was accompanied by an official video in which Reyez submerges herself in a celestial lake while reflecting on an unconditional love: “I’ll be there to pull you back up/I’ll be around you, I’m nothing without you,” she sings in the chorus. “I won’t leave you alone/’Cause when the stars are falling down/There’s love in the dark.”
You can watch the Se Oh-directed video above. “Love in the Dark” will land on Reyez’ forthcoming debut studio album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, which is available now for pre-order. The album will arrive on March 27.
The project serves as the follow-up to Reyez’s 2018 EP Being Human in Public. That project is up for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2020 Grammys.
