Jimmy Butler on Joining 76ers: ‘We Got a Little Ways to Go, We Got Some Things to Figure Out’

Jimmy Butler is (hopefully) heading to greener pastures with the Philadelphia 76ers after forcing his way out of Minnesota. On Saturday, the Timberwolves dealt Butler to the 76ers in exchange for Robert Covington and Dario Saric, ending the four-time All-Star’s nearly two-month push for a trade.
On Monday, NBC Sports Philadelphia caught up with the newest member of the 76ers shortly after his plane landed in his new home for the foreseeable future. A visibly upbeat Butler expressed his excitement towards starting “something new” with the Sixers. When asked about his outlook on playing with the team’s two young stars, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, Jimmy Buckets was looking forward to the opportunity, but also understands that it will take time for these three players to become a cohesive unit. “I’m ready to get started, we got a little ways to go, we got some things to figure out,” he said. “But all-in-all, I look forward to it.”
From day one, Butler wants to make it clear what type of player the Sixers acquired over the weekend. “Hard playing. A guy that wants to win,” he said. “We got some things we want to get done here, we want to win a championship. I think the core group of guys we have, we’ll figure out a way to get it done.” The 76ers going all-in for Jimmy signals the organization’s intent to transition from #TrustTheProcess to winning now.
There is still a slim chance that Butler becomes a one-year rental, but a solid run in the regular season followed by a significant push in the playoffs should ensure that signs on the dotted line next summer
