Jimmy Butler Seemingly Responds to Criticism by Quoting Harvey Dent From ‘The Dark Knight’

Written by on October 23, 2018

Jimmy Butler stirred the pot Monday with an Instagram post where he used a quote from Harvey Dent in the 2008 film The Dark Knight. Butler posted a photo of himself walking through a park with the caption, “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

The use of the quote can be a not-so-subtle reference to his current situation with the Minnesota Timberwolves, which has seen him go from being a hero following a 31-point performance in the final game of the 2017-18 season to secure the eighth and final seed in the playoffs to getting booed in Minnesota’s home opener at the Target Center.

Wolves fans started to turn on Butler after he reportedly demanded a trade back in September. His return to the team one month later was punctuated by a practice session where he took the roster’s back-end players in a scrimmage, and defeated the starters, as well as screaming “You f**king need me” at Minnesota’s general manager Scott Layden.

Butler maintains that his behavior during that practice was meant to bring the most out of his teammates, especially Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. However, his antics haven’t endeared him to Wolves fans who let their voices be heard when the team returned home. Given their icy response, it makes sense that Jimmy would conclude that he has managed to live up to that Harvey Dent quote. Some people aren’t buying it, and the four-time All-Star was ready to respond to anyone who sees otherwise.
