Joel Embiid Jokes About the Warriors Blowing Their 3-1 Lead After Win Over Nets

Written by on April 21, 2019

Joel Embiid is clearly in good spirits.

After the 76ers‘ took a 3-1 series lead over the Nets on Saturday, Embiid told the media he was pleased with his team’s 112-108 victory and was now focused on carrying that momentum into Game 5. Of course, the All-Star couldn’t help but crack a joke at the Golden State Warriors.

“It feels great to be up 3-1, but we definitely don’t want to be in a situation like the Warriors two years ago,” Embiid said, prompting laughter among reporters and his teammate Jimmy Butler. “I was kidding. But we want to be able to close it at home. That was a big win, so we just gotta go home and don’t let them have any chance.”

As most of you know, the Golden State Warriors became the first team in history to blow a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals, which resulted in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first ever championship title.

Embiid, who missed Game 3 due to tendinitis in his left knee, finished Saturday’s game with 31 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 blocks. Tobias Harris contributed 24 points, while Ben Simmons finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Butler and Nets’ Jared Dudley were ejected from Game 4 after an altercation in the third quarter. Both players were issued double technical fouls.

Game 5 will go down 8 p.m. ET Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center. If the Sixers lock down another win, they’ll advance to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals for the second straight season.
