Though it’s been more than two years since he’s released a full-length project, John Mayer has kept fans happy with a number of guest appearances and what appear to be, standalone singles. Mayer’s latest offering, “Carry Me Away,” arrived Thursday night, just in time for summer’s end.
“I’m such a bore, I’m such a bummer/There must be more behind the summer,” he sings in the opening verse. “I want someone to make some trouble/Been way too safe inside my bubble/Take me out and keep me up all night/Let me live on the wilder side of life.”
You can stream the track now on Apple Music and Spotify. Mayer also dropped off a video for the track. Watch it up top.
“Carry Me Away” arrives more than a year after “New Light” and nearly seven months after “I Guess I Just Feel Like.” Following the release of each single, fans immediately began speculating that a new Mayer album was around the corner; however, the artist recently revealed he hasn’t even begun recording the project—and doesn’t intend to do so until 2020.
He confirmed this during an Instagram Q&A session earlier this week:
