‘Jojo Rabbit’ Actor Archie Yates to Star in Disney+’s ‘Home Alone’ Reboot

Written by on December 11, 2019

The Home Alone reboot has found its star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, child actor Archie Yates has signed on to lead the next installment of the beloved franchise for the newly launched Disney+. Sources say Yates—the breakout star of Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit—will not take on the role of Kevin McCallister, but rather a new character named Max who is said to be “wise beyond his years and has the personality to easily converse with adults.” THR reports Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Office) and Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw) have also been tapped to star in the film, but will not portray Max’s parents; they will instead play a husband and wife who go to war with Max over an expensive heirloom he stole from their home.

Per the outlet: “Sources say the project is being labeled Home Alone due to the similarities in concept, but in execution the project will have another title.”

Home Alone will be the first project produced by 20th Century Fox for Disney’s new streaming service. The film will be directed by Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa) with a script by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. The project is scheduled to begin filming in early 2020 in Canada.

Stay tuned as more information about the project is revealed.

In addition to Home Alone, Disney+ is expected to revive/reimagine classic films like Night at the Museum, Diary of a Whimpy Kid, and Cheaper by the Dozen.
