Jon Favreau Reveals Why ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4 Has Already Been Written

Written by on February 23, 2023

As fans eagerly await the return of Season 3 of The Mandalorian, creator Jon Favreau revealed he has already completed work on the fourth.

“Season 4, yeah, I’ve written it already,” Favreau told France’s BFM TV, as noted by Variety. The Lion King director said he penned the scripts during post-production on the upcoming season because he wanted to figure out a roadmap to the conclusion of The Mandalorian, while also finding ways to incorporate the larger Star Wars universe.

“We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully formed story,” Favreau explained. “So we had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I, and slowly you start to write each episode. So I was writing it during post-production. Because all of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story.”

“And then [Dave’s] doing Ahsoka, which I’m producing with him. But he’s the writer and showrunner on that,” he continued. “So to understand what’s happening on other shows—or even Skeleton Crew—[that] all take place within the same Star Wars time period. There’s a lot more things that we’ve got to keep in mind and also stuff that we’ve built up to from previous seasons of The Mandalorian as well.”

We got a glimpse into the interconnected nature of the Star Wars properties with The Book of Boba Fett, where Mando and Grogu not only appeared, but laid the groundwork for Season 3.

Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson recently shared on Today with Hoda & Jenna that her series—about the fan favorite first seen in Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows—is “probably going to come out in the fall.”

Pedro Pascal recently discussed the difficulties he’s encountered wearing the “head-to-toe” weighted glove that is the Mandalorian suit in an interview with Empire.

“It’s ironic that you can’t see any facial expression because it puts you in the world so completely, and instantly makes the character feel real—but you can’t see shit!” the Last of Us star admitted.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+ on March 1.
