Jonah Hill Says Nobody Saw His Best Acting Because ‘Amazon F*cked It Up’

Jonah Hill starred in the Gus Van Sant-directed 2018 film Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot where he played Donnie Greene. In his appearance on GQ‘s Instagram Live show The Drop-In, Hill spoke highly of his own work on Don’t Worry, saying, “It’s the best acting I have done or will ever do, but no one saw it because Amazon completely fucked it up.”
Hill wasn’t just bragging either. Revered Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers speculated if the 36-year-old actor was in line for a third Oscar nomination for his performance in Don’t Worry. “A word here about Hill: His portrayal of the gay, bearded, caftan-wearing, trust-funded father figure is a marvel of nuanced acting,” Travers wrote. “Could this be the comedy star’s third Oscar nomination, following ‘Moneyball’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ for showing his dramatic chops? The actor comes up aces.”
So where did it all go wrong? Well, as Hill said, “Amazon completely fucked it up.” Don’t Worry was picked up by Amazon before Sundance where the film made its premiere in January. The movie was also screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, but wasn’t released in theaters until July. By then, any momentum that Don’t Worry had generated was lost, and having it compete against A24’s indie darling Eighth Grade was the kiss of death. It made only $4.2 million at the box office.
The film also starred Joaquin Phoenix, Jack Black, and Carrie Brownstein.
As Hill searches for the role that could finally land him an Oscar, he can take pride in knowing that he has used the most profanities in film, according to a study conducted by Buzz Bingo, which reviewed over 3,500 film scripts. Hill has used 376 curse words over his career. Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson came in second and third with 361 and 301, respectively.
Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot is currently available on Amazon Prime, so you can judge for yourself.
