Justin Bieber Wants Kehlani to Know He Had First No. 1 R&B Album of 2020

Kehlani‘s sophomore album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, is racking up impressive numbers within its first week. Early projections indicate the effort has a strong chance of debuting at No. 1, but is in a tight race with Nav’s Good Intentions and Drake’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes. So, in an effort to gain an edge, Kehlani called on her fans to continue streaming the album, and help make it the first R&B project to top the charts “in a long time.”
“Last day to stream to get the first strictly RNB first week #1 album in a long time,” she wrote on Instagram. “Our genre isn’t dead, our genre deserves! … stream awayyy!”
Shortly after Kehlani shared the post, Justin Bieber took to the comments section with a correction: “Changes was rnb ;)”
Though many consider Bieber a pop artist, his 2020 studio album, Changes, has been classified as R&B. The project, which included a guest appearance by Kehlani, not only debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it also earned Bieber his first No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums charts. But despite this fact, not everyone is convinced Changes deserves the R&B designation. You can read some of the reactions to Biebs’ comment below.
