Kanye West Leads Gospel Choir Through His Hits for ‘Sunday Service’

Written by on January 14, 2019

As Kim Kardashian promised, Kanye West‘s Sunday Service kicked off this week. Yeezy lead a choir through his hits from every era, sanctifying tracks from College Dropout to Ye with the help of a full choir.

The whole family was on hand for the trip to church, with Kris Jenner livestreaming the event on her Instagram. Kim posted snippets of songs like  “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1” “Lift Yourself,” and “I Wonder” to her Instagram Story.

Last week, Kardashian posted an inside look at rehearsals for the Sunday Service with Tony Williams, Kid Cudi and 070 Shake making appearances. The real thing delivered on that promise with uplifting spins on a ton of Kanye classics. Given that Kanye has always pulled from church music heavily in his productions, it’s not surprising that the songs work so well as straight-up gospel.

While he still hasn’t delivered Yandhi, Kanye has time to take on whatever productions and side projects he pleases. His string of 7-track albums is in the past, and he doesn’t have to worry about planning a Coachella performance since he reportedly backed out of the festival when organizers wouldn’t let him build a desert dome

“He has some great [production] ideas, but we just weren’t able to pull them off right now,” festival co-founder Paul Tollett told the Los Angeles Times. “I’d like to circle back with him and figure out a future plan of what to do with what’s in his head. He’s very capable of coming up with ideas that work that are pretty great. Up until Jan. 1, we were making a poster with Kanye on it. We started realizing we’re probably going to have an impasse production-wise.”
