Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’ Reportedly Not Dropping on Friday

Written by on September 25, 2019

There has been a flurry of confusion surrounding Kanye West‘s upcoming album. Now, things have gotten even more cloudy as a source reports to Variety that Jesus Is King will not drop on its intended release date of Friday, Sept. 27.

At first, Kanye was set to release the project under the title Yandhi. Yandhi had several fluctuating release dates leading to the record being totally revamped and renamed Jesus Is King. Kim Kardashian revealed the new title and tracklist via a tweet in late August.

Kanye’s official site reiterated that Jesus Is King is now the album by featuring Kim’s picture as its homepage. To coincide with the new title, reports started to surface claiming Jesus Is King will drop the last Friday of September. It now sounds like plans may have gone awry.

According to Hits Daily Double, Def Jam executives have taken a trip to Wyoming to meet with Kanye. It’s unclear why the label has decided to descend on Yeezus’ promised land, but insiders believe it’s to talk about the release. Sources tell Hits that Def Jam is either looking to push the LP back or try to talk Ye into dropping it this Friday. Rick Rubin, who co-founded Def Jam and worked on Yeezus and The Life of Pablo, is reportedly involved, whether for artistic or business reasons.

The New York Times’ Joe Coscarelli echoed the reports, saying he’s “hearing from many industry people that ‘Jesus Is King’ is not coming on Friday, despite people on the ground in Wyoming trying to make it happen.”

Kim Kardashian is continuing with the regularly scheduled program. The driving force for all things Jesus Is King release-related retweeted a post stating the album will come on the proposed date.
