Kate Beckinsale Thinks More Marriages Would Improve If Couples Didn’t Live Together

If you’ve ever said to yourself, “Gee, I wonder what Kate Beckinsale‘s thoughts are in relation to marriage and living together,” then today’s your lucky day, because she laid out her two cents on that very subject in a cover story for Women’s Health.
As Beckinsale sees it, couples who have exchanged vows would be better off if they weren’t living together under the same roof. Of course that particular quote came in a passage about how she craves alone time, but feel free to upend your current living arrangements accordingly.
“I think more people would do well married if they didn’t have to live in the same house,” the Underworld actress said. “Being married is kind of easy, but the living-with-the-person thing is a lot.”
Page Six notes that she was married to director Len Wiseman from 2004 until 2016. “I also think that for women especially—and this is generalizing—but I think it’s common for us to mentally subjugate our needs to whoever else is in the room,” she added. “So if you’ve got a husband, a boyfriend, kids or parents, it’s so easy to come in with an idea of what you’d like to do, and then end up going, ‘Oh no, no, no, it’s fine.’ And it’s quite nice to not always have to negotiate that.”
The interview also touched on other subjects you would expect such a journalistic endeavor to address, including how Beckinsale felt during her four-month relationship with Pete Davidson, which was often talked about by the obnoxious subsection of the internet that gives a shit about such matters.
“If everyone’s shitting on you, it can make you kind of ugh for a minute—especially if there’s really nothing wrong,” she said. “If you’re strangling a squirrel or hurting someone, I get it, but living one’s life in a reasonably respectful manner shouldn’t invite anyone to get too excited.”
She also talked about not ingesting caffeine or alcohol—ever. And also about how Ben Affleck had to get new teeth for a movie role.
