Kelis‘ lost album produced entirely by The Neptunes is finally available to stream.
The 2001 album Wanderland made its way out into the wider world, but never saw release in the United States as her deal with Virgin Records fell through at exactly the wrong time. Fans who have worn through their copies of 2014’s Food can finally hear something new as it dropped on all streaming services in the U.S. today.
Give it a listen below.
The surprise drop comes at the tail-end of a particularly dark year for Kelis. She’s been in the middle of a very public battle with her former husband Nas. Kelis believes that she’s owed more in child support than Nas is giving and, over the course of their battle, allegations of abuse have been aired.
“There was a lot of mental and physical abuse,” she said. “It was really dark. A lot of drinking. A lot of mental and physical abuse and it got to the point where if I wasn’t pregnant, I might have stayed with him. I was pregnant and it was a mess and I felt like I wasn’t going to bring a child into this.”
Nas denied the allegations in an open letter to Kelis that he posted to Instagram.
