Ken Block Dead at 55 After Snowmobile Accident in Utah

Written by on January 3, 2023

Ken Block, 55, died in a snowmobile accident in Utah on Monday.

The action sports legend’s death was first reported by the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, which shared a statement on Monday regarding a fatal snowmobile accident in the Mill Hollow region. Per the department, multiple agencies—including Utah State Parks and U.S. Forest Service—responded to the scene following a 911 call at around 2:00 p.m. local time.

Block is said to have been on a snowmobile “on a steep slope” when the vehicle upended and landed on top of him, resulting in Block being pronounced deceased at the scene. According to local authorities, Block was “riding with a group” but was alone at the time of the fatal accident. An official cause of death will be determined by Utah’s Office of the Medical Examiner.

“We are saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth and our hearts are with his family and friends so deeply affected,” the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday.

In a separate statement, Block’s Hoonigan Industries—a name that should be familiar to rallying fans and appreciators of extreme sports at large—confirmed the tragic news.

“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” the statement, shared to Instagram, read. “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”

Ken Block’s decades of influence in the extreme sports space included numerous accolades, including five X Games medals and his viral Gymkhana series on YouTube. In addition to his Hooligan Racing Division feats, Block was also known for being a co-founder and key figure behind the DC Shoes label.

RIP.
