Kendrick Lamar Has Signed a ‘Long Term Deal’ with BMI Publishing

Written by on April 29, 2019

Broadcast Music, Inc., one the leading performing rights organizations, has officially signed Pulitzer-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar to a “long term deal.” The company now represents Kendrick’s impressive catalog of music, which includes good kid, mA.A.d city, To Pimp a Butterfly, and DAMN.

Kendrick joins a list of Top Dawg Entertainment talent already represented by BMI, including Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and SZA, who he recently collaborated with on the Black Panther track “All the Stars.” The song was widely applauded and landed the duo four Grammy nominations and two Golden Globe noms in addition to an Academy Award nomination.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Kendrick to the BMI family and expand our great working relationship with Top Dawg Entertainment and its incredibly talented roster,” Mike Steinberg, EVP Creative & Licensing at BMI said. “Kendrick’s gift for writing and performing such stunningly impactful music has solidified his stature among the world’s greatest artists and, without a doubt, as a major force in our industry for many years to come. We’re honored that he has chosen BMI to represent his creative works.”

Although Kendrick has previously denied rumors that he’s currently working on a new album, his decision to bring the publishing rights of his discography to BMI may signal a DAMN. follow up is on the way. K.Dot was previously represented by Warner/Chappell Music.
