Kevin Hart is being sued by a woman who alleges she was “violently” hit by one of the comedian’s security guards, according to The Blast.
Documents obtained by the outlet state that a woman named Carmen Marrero is suing Hart, his company Hartbeat Productions, and an unknown security guard for assault and battery.
Marrero claims on Jan. 9, 2019, she was walking on a sidewalk in New York when Hart came out of a building and a group of fans encircled him. She then asserts Hart’s security “violently contacted” her when she walked by.
That day, Hart was leaving a screening of his movie with Bryan Cranston called The Upside. Marrero says she endured “serious injuries” and looking for unspecified damages. According to TMZ, she fractured her face.
The purported incident occurred around the time of Hart’s Academy Awards drama, when homophobic tweets from the comedian resurfaced, costing him the hosting gig.
In April, Hart addressed the homophobic tweets in advance of the premiere of his Netflix special Irresponsible, explaining how he moved beyond his bad tweets, even turning some of his troubles into material.
“As a human, you’ve got to be OK with being flawed. You’ve got to be OK with knowing that mistakes can be made, and that there’s always opportunity for growth and improvement,” he said in an interview with USA Today. “The only way to learn is to (mess) up. My stand-up comedy is an open book to my life, all the good and the bad.”
