KFC Will Test Plant-Based ‘Chicken’ Alternative at Atlanta Restaurant

Written by on August 26, 2019

KFC is testing plant-based chicken in an Atlanta location on Aug. 27.

The fried chicken chain will offer Beyond Meat’s newest fake meat creation, Beyond Fried Chicken, CNN Business reports. KFC will become the first national fast-food restaurant to try the plant-based chicken.

KFC will offer both nuggets and boneless wings, available as six or 12-piece combo meals. The wings are $1 each—$6 for a half-dozen and $12 for a dozen—while the nuggets are $6.49 for six and $8.49 for 12. Customers can also order four plant-based chicken nuggets à la carte for $1.99.

“KFC Beyond Fried Chicken is so delicious, our customers will find it difficult to tell that it’s plant-based,” Kevin Hochman, chief concept officer for KFC U.S., told CNN. “I think we’ve all heard ‘it tastes like chicken’—well our customers are going to be amazed and say, ‘it tastes like Kentucky Fried Chicken!’”

In addition to chicken, Beyond Meat also has burger, ground beef, sausage alternatives, and more. According to Engadget, earlier this year, Beyond Meat removed its meatless chicken from grocery stores after determining it didn’t meet company standards.

Other fast food chains that provide plant-based meat alternatives are Burger King, Tim Hortons, Dunkin’, Del Taco, and White Castle.
